Switching to Reusable Period Products: What Actually Changes
If you are thinking about switching to reusable period products, here is what actually changes, without the sales pitch.
The cost
A typical month of disposable pads runs to about ₹125, which is roughly ₹3,000 over two years. A Care-O-Safe pack is ₹300 and costs nothing after that. The switch pays for itself in under three months, and everything after that is money you keep.
The washing
This is the part people worry about, and it is simpler than expected. Soak in cold water for about thirty minutes, wash with any ordinary soap or detergent, and dry in sunlight or a ventilated spot. No ironing, no hot water, no brush. It adds a few minutes to a normal wash routine.
The comfort
Reusable pads use breathable fabric rather than a plastic top sheet, so there is less heat and moisture trapped against the skin. If you get rashes with disposables, this is usually the change you notice first.
The waste
Two years of disposables is roughly 240 pads going to landfill, where they take between 500 and 800 years to break down. Two years of reusables is one pack.
How long they last
Care-O-Safe pads handle over 100 washes, which works out to about two years of normal use. Keeping them out of very hot water and away from a scrubbing brush is what makes them last.
Most people do not switch everything at once. Starting with two or three pads for lighter days is the easiest way in, and it tells you quickly whether reusables suit you.
